Blown asphalt, natural bitumen, steel, 32 x 161 each, 2026

The imagery across the seven panels was created using a neural network trained on museum records of underworld iconography. Altar panels, divination paraphernalia, and funerary objects from collections across the world (since the underworld has no political borders) formed the work’s basis. From this vast archive a speculative vision of the afterlife’s future emerged and was transferred by hand onto steel using unprocessed Japanese bitumen.
